Coastal Study Unit Ferrara

 

Headed by professor Paolo Ciavola, the COastal STudy Unit of Ferrara (COSTUF) currently includes 2 post-doctoral researchers, 3 full time PhD students and several BSc and
MSc students from the Department of Physics and Earth Sciences and the Department. The research group is based at the University of Ferrara within the
Department of Physics and Earth Sciences. The research objectives focus on recent aspects of coastal morphodynamics including different types of environment such as
coastal inlets, urbanized beaches, coastal dunes, gravel beaches, mixed sand and gravel beaches.

Research has often been conducted within research projects like ANYWHERE, RISC-KIT, MICORE, CONHAZ, CADSEALAND, COASTVIEW, SWAMIEE, F-ECTS and INDIA supported by the European Community. The COSTUF also collaborates with private and public companies like: ENI (the Italian oil company), Consorzio Venezia Nuova (local delegate for the Magistrato Alle Acque of Venice), Thetis s.p.a. (environmental engineering firm based in Venice as well), Regione Emilia-Romagna (local authority based in Bologna, which takes care of the regional coastline of Emilia-Romagna), Regione Marche (local authority based inAncona, which takes care of the regional coastline of Marche), etc.
