Once upon a CGEM-IT -- C'era una volta la CGEM-IT
Abstract
The CGEM-IT (Cylindrical Gaseous Electron Multiplier) is the new inner tracker of the BESIII experiment, installed in late 2024, and since then, it has been successfully taking data. But, as in many adventures, the path to reach the installation was less than trivial. This presentation retraces the 10-year tale of the CGEM-IT project, going through the fundamental ideas, the "big bad wolves" that we had to face, the never-ending story of the installation and operation, and what we have learned.
