Collaborations

The Department participates in research programmes on every continent, including Antarctica. The collaborations in place are too numerous to list here, but can be found on the pages dedicated to the individual research areas. Among these, Italian research institutions stand out.

Since 1989, the Department has hosted a section of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), the main Italian institution dedicated to the study of fundamental physics.

There are strong links with the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), with which the University has an agreement allowing INAF staff to use the Department as their place of work, an opportunity particularly exploited by researchers and technologists from the nearby Bologna Observatory of Astrophysics and Space Sciences (OAS).

There is also very close collaboration with the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), involving numerous institutes and areas of research. Here too, there is a university agreement in place at the DFST that allows INGV staff to carry out their work in premises made available by the Department.

The collaboration with the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK) in Trento has been consolidated, particularly with regard to research activities in the field of condensed matter physics and applied physics.

Finally, various groups within the Department collaborate with several institutes of the National Research Council (CNR): the Institute of Science, Technology and Sustainability for the Development of Ceramic Materials (CNR-ISSMC), the Institute of Methodologies for Environmental Analysis (CNR-IMAA), the Institute for the Study of Anthropogenic Impacts and Sustainability in the Marine Environment (CNR-IAS), the Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems (CNR-IMM) , the Institute of Chemistry of Organometallic Compounds (CNR-ICCOM) and the Institute of Cultural Heritage Sciences (CNR-ISPC).
