The Department of Physics and Earth Sciences actively collaborates with many local organizations and promotes youth entrepreneurship by supporting spin-offs and startups.
NEA Srl is a spin-off accredited by the University of Ferrara since 2017 that conducts research and development projects for environmental sustainability and innovation. Its activities focus on renewable energy resources (low and medium enthalpy geothermal energy). Its main application sectors are the public and private built environment, agriculture, livestock farming, industry, and manufacturing in general.
SCENT S.r.l. was founded in 2015 from university research initiated at the Department of Physics and Earth Sciences of the University of Ferrara. Scent develops devices for the identification of tumor biomarkers by analyzing the exhalations produced by biological samples (such as feces, blood, and cell cultures).
The device developed by Scent is patented in Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom and has been clinically validated through a three-year protocol (2016-2019) with the Sant'Anna Hospital in Cona and the AUSL-FE (Local Health Authority).
